Don’t have too much to show for Steampunk despite my love of it. The gun here is from a Nerf Maverick gun I found laying on the street one morning. It was apparently abandoned and was scratched and dinged pretty good.
Being the curious sort, I immediately disassembled it and figured out what I could use and what I couldn’t. The large barrel was damaged and wouldn’t rotate so I decided to simply remove it entirely. I sanded off the logos and warnings, then used Bondo to fix the body issues. More sanding and Bondo for a bit (rinse, repeat).
I masked off the gun and painted it, using a hammered copper color for plastics I like. I also used some Tester’s spray paint called Gunmetal Grey which is designed to be polished when it dries. I carefully painted the whole thing and then reassembled it carefully and used JB Weld (it’s an epoxy with tiny bits of metal suspended in it, giving it a dark grey color) to glue it all together.
Using JB Weld, some bits of thick copper wire, some spent CO2 and NO2 cartridges I found on the street, too (kids either with paint guns or doing whippits), some car parts I found on the street, bits of PVC and some of the internal parts of the gun itself, I made the rest. Total time for the project (including dry time) was about 8 hours. This would have taken less time with a more coherent plan, but it was an entirely exploratory project just to see what I could do with these found objects.
